Our Nursery Groups

at Little Woodlands Day Nursery

At Little Woodlands Day Nursery, we provide high‑quality childcare and early years education for children aged 3 months to 5 years.

Our nursery is divided into three dedicated age groups – Babies, Toddlers and Pre‑School – ensuring every child receives the right level of care, support and stimulation at each stage of their development.

Each room is designed to feel warm, homely and secure, with experienced practitioners who help children learn, explore and grow through the EYFS framework.

When your little one begins their journey at Little Woodlands, whatever age they may be they will be assigned a keyperson who will oversee their learning and development.

You will get the opportunity to meet your child’s keyperson at your initial settling in session, where you will get to share with them all they need to know about your precious little one. Our children are split into different age groups as detailed below.

Baby room (3–18 months)

A calm, nurturing space for your child’s first experiences.

Our baby room is a peaceful, caring environment where our youngest children feel safe, loved and supported. With a strong focus on building secure attachments, our team provides plenty of one‑to‑one interaction, sensory play and early communication activities.

What parents can expect:

  • A cosy, home‑from‑home atmosphere
  • Individual routines that mirror your child’s needs
  • Sensory exploration to support early brain development
  • Lots of cuddles, comfort and reassurance
  • Highly qualified staff trained in infant care and paediatric first aid

This room gives babies the perfect start to their nursery journey, helping them feel confident and settled from day one.

Toddler room (18 months–3 years)

Encouraging independence through play and exploration.

Our toddler room is full of opportunities for curious minds. As children become more mobile and independent, we support them with hands‑on learning experiences that build confidence, communication and social skills.

In the toddler room, children enjoy:

  • Messy play, creative activities and imaginative role play

  • Early language development through songs, stories and conversation

  • Outdoor play in our secure garden

  • Activities that support physical development and coordination

  • Gentle routines that help toddlers feel secure and understood

This stage is all about discovery – and our team is there to guide, encourage and celebrate every milestone.

Pre‑School room (3–5 years)

Preparing children for school and beyond.

Our Pre‑School room provides a stimulating environment where children develop the skills they need for a confident transition to primary school. We follow the EYFS curriculum, offering a balance of structured learning and child‑led play.

Our Pre‑School programme includes:

  • Early literacy and numeracy activities

  • Problem‑solving, reasoning and early science

  • Social‑skills development and teamwork

  • Outdoor learning and nature exploration

  • Activities that build independence, resilience and confidence

We work closely with families and local schools to ensure every child is ready for the next step in their learning journey.

A smooth transition through each stage

Children move through our nursery groups based on their age, confidence and developmental readiness. We work closely with parents to make transitions calm, positive and well‑supported, ensuring every child feels secure as they progress.
